Zürich is having a bit of a cultural Renaissance at the moment, with many independent coffee shops, boutiques and restaurants popping up all over the place. They are moving away from stuffy, formal, business Zürich and becoming more… hipster?! Personally, I see this is a positive development. Zürich has been calling out for more choice of affordable and interesting eateries and shops for years!
My husband and I explored the area on a sunny Saturday in March. One of our favourite discoveries was Café Noir. This is without doubt, the best coffee I have ever had in Zürich. They roast their own beans, and also sell them in their café… Needless to say, we came home with a big bag of their Espresso beans.
Another highlight was the Brockenhaus (Neugasse 11), which is filled with three floors of the fanciest second-hand goods I’ve ever seen. Beautiful leather sofas sit alongside old vinyl and they even have a little ‘Sirup Café’. This is definitely worth a visit, although you would need a few hours to explore everthing.
Another gem in the area is Einzigart. This shop is a treasure trove. It meanders through various levels and floors and they sell everything from sunglasses to homewear to gin-making kits. Many of the products are designed and created by locals, so you can support the community. It is also the perfect spot to pick up an original gift.
