Market Table – 21st May 2016

Summer is finally here in Zürich! We’ve had weeks of rain, which has been even harder to take when hearing about heatwaves and the like in Ireland… To take advantage of the dry weather, I hopped on my bike and cycled along the river to the Oerlikon market. It’s great seeing all the new summer-time goodies at the stalls. Everything is extra colourful and there’s so much choice. The market was packed with people picking up BBQ specials, and I was doing the same, getting some great stewing beef to mince for burgers, chicken to marinade and green beans, mange tout and asparagus for a tasty salad.

Here’s the haul…

From bottom left: stewing beef, lemons, fresh garlic, spring onions and leeks, mange tout, green beans, coco beans herbs, asparagus, tomatoes, carrots, onions and new potatoes, eggs, bread, peppers, double cream, goat chees (out of shot), courgettes, free range chicken thighs. Centre – sea bream.

I saw this guy on my way to the market. Hung around hoping he’d catch me some fish, but no such luck.

Känzig bakery

One of the great bakeries at the market. The hazelnut bread is delicious.
